Student Field Study Projects

Entrepreneurial companies seeking business assistance with marketing, operational planning, or strategic planning may qualify for inclusion in graduate student class projects. Assistance is provided to entrepreneurs though the various courses listed below.  Students work under the direction of highly qualified faculty members.  Entrepreneurial companies interested in participating in these graduate classes should submit a one-page description of their individual needs for review by the course instructor.  Participation in any field project activity requires approval of the appropriate teaching faculty and selection by student teams. Courses may not be offered every semester. For inquiries, please contact the Center for Entrepreneurship.

Advanced Marketing Program

The Advanced Marketing Program for MBA students builds on basic marketing strategy taught in the classroom by preparing the student to function in a broad range of marketing/entrepreneurial environments.  In addition to coursework, independent study and research, students are strongly encouraged to pursue internship opportunities, which will complement their formal education with real-world application.

Business Planning

Provides graduate students with the skills and knowledge to conceive, plan, finance, launch and develop a business venture.  It culminates in a consulting field project in which student teams work in a consulting capacity for local businesses.  The end-product is typically a business plan, prepared by the students, which can assist the company with raising capital or serve as a blueprint for company growth.

Integrated Business Applications (IBA)

This course serves as the capstone for the MBA program, and is required for all graduating students.  It emphasizes the application of techniques and methods taught to students throughout their business education.  The IBA Program concludes with the development of a detailed marketing/operations business plan.

Kauffman Entrepreneur Internship Program

This internationally recognized internship program provides unique entrepreneurial opportunities for highly qualified graduate students. These appointments will require student interns to work directly with the Chief Executive Officers (or designee) of local high-growth businesses and socially aware organizations on internship class projects.  Course allows for great flexibility in project deliverables.  Host companies are asked to pay student stipend.

Strategic Market Assessments for New Technologies

This graduate level course is designed to examine strategic opportunities for commercialization of new University inventions.  The course links University researchers, who would like to explore the feasibility and options for technology commercialization, with a team of cross-disciplinary MBA students.   Project deliverables at semester-end include a technology assessment, market analysis, and recommended commercialization strategy.
